Rangers Thumped 7-1

Rangers were put to the sword by a dominant South Hobart at the Ulverstone Showgrounds today. Rangers were under the pump in the first half but the defence absorbed the pressure and went into half time only trailing 1-0 after a cracking goal from outside the 18 yard box. Rangers had a few chances in the first half to score themselves but they were usually camped in their own half.

It wasn't pretty after half time from a Rangers perspective as South started to pile on the goals as 3 went in in quick succession after the restart. Lanau-Atkinson pulled a goal back for Rangers to make it 4-1 but the route continued soon after. After the game Adam Whitemore seeme disgusted with his team's defensive efforts in the second half. He made no excuses though, as blind Freddy could see that South were the superior team.

If South Hobart continue with the current coach and the current set up they have at the moment they will have a long reign at the top of Tasmanian Soccer for years to come. They dominated today, as they have done for the last 2 years.

  1. What a shame..... that I missed it. Couldn't of happened to a nicer club.

  2. Agreed N.O. It was great to be able to watch 2 games on the coast. The game today was worth the drive. Not because the Rangers were beaten, but the way in which South play is mind blowing. Their ability to move the ball and play as a team is incredible. Clasey finishes by Brennan and co.
Rangers were unfort beaten by their own game styke of possession football.
Watching Dev yesterday was hard to watch. Was a horrible game. First time i have seen Mckenna shut down, only a set piece and lack of marking allowed him into the game.
So what does this mean, the Northen League is wide open. Ranger & Prospect only have the league now were dev have 2 things to think off.
Devonport love to kick a long ball from defence and hope someone can run onto it. Only there sweeper can pass the ball. Shut mckenna win the game. Rangers are there own worst enemy looking at today. Don't play direct enough. Prospect have a balance of both and I think will go on and win the league.

  3. thats what you get for letting one of your defence players play football on sat when you have a big game sunday so adam what will you do about sam,by the sound's of it he is thinking of him self and not the team tell him to play galic football then he dosen't need to chose.

  6. Dont play him ! or is the individual bigger than the club. Surely if he sees a need to play Football anytime he has the chance then he is not focused on the team/clubs. Or do you wait till he is injured from football and cant play.

  7. Captain Aus,

Explain to us all why Rangers didnt concider playing a double header at Devonport on Saturday if grounds were hard to find ? Surely this would have been a better spectical for football supporters !

  8. Once again people are finding it hard to take that devonport are up and about. The sad reality is that they are the only Northern side left. This makes me wonder, after reading the above comment: long ball to mckena tactic. Once again any side in the competition would take him from devonport in a heartbeat. To say you wouldn't is a lie, as for devonports tactics, you can say what u like about it but they are on top off the league and there only northern side left ???? So....... unless I am mistaken I would say either they are playing something different or the other teams are incapable of stopping Mckenna??? So if thats how they play, why aren't sides shutting him down ??

  9. Devonport must be skilled to header two long balls in ??

  10. No mckenna, no dev... fact
He is the best player and u cant shut him down. without him, they wont win the league

  11. If i was a female, i would go McKenna. Magic player, strapping tape to wrap u up & great skin complexion. Find something constructive to talk about!

  12. Surely the issue with Sam Luck playing AFL is a Rangers issue. Or is it someone from Prospect hoping they will pull the pin on him so he doesnt play against them??????????

  13. The decison to play at Ulverstone was not Captain Aust on his own. We discussed the issue midweek and believed that Ulverstone was the best option due to the ability of the ground to drain. We also believed Devonport wouldnt of been that keen on an extra game considering the wet conditions. We have a good relationship with the guys at Ulvie, they have helped us in the past so thats why we called them. In the end we can ask to play a game wherever we like and FFT sanctioned it. End of story.

  14. No Mckena no Devonport ???? Hold On ... No Todd Hingston No rangers No sessay No prospect , No Smith No somerset ??? , Hang on there is a Trend here , Everyone Has a quality player just happens that devonports mckena is the best there is. The positive is that Devonport are able to work around Mckenna. This is evident as they sit on top and are the only northern side alive still. So I would say Tom Mcginn is doing a great job and why criticise a side for having a super star ?? Besides I am yet to see Mckenna save a shot and dribble from the goal box and score. So i would say the other blokes are doing something right eh ??

  16. no sesay no prospect? sesay was suspended last weekend and yet knights won 3-0. Knights are not a one man team as you can tell. They are doing well challenging for the title. The only reason they are not top is because Devonport and Rangers are yet to have the bye

  18. the only reason knights are not second on the ladder is because someone at fft doesnt realise that P comes before R in the alphabet. and that rangers score 2.7 goals for every goal scored against them ,wheras knights score 2.9.

  19. agreed. If it is true about Sam Luck, then all the other Ranger players that try to make the senior side every week , should be disgusted and appalled if he is aloud to slot back in on their next game. I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed to happen at any other club. Very disrespectful made even more so as he is the Captain!!! Care to comment Sam??

  20. Mckenna is not the best player in the league far from it he is the best goal scorer probably yes he is 6ft tall and everytime a capable defender plays on him he is shut down his skill level is average and he has no right foot but yeah is the best in the air in the whole comp devonport without him 4th or 5th finish simple

  21. Sit Ouboo what are you smoking? Rangers are second because their goal diff is same as Knights but more goals scored!

  22. anon at 17:57 are you for real? name one of these 'capable defenders' that has shut him down & stopped him from scoring, I know I cant! I'd be interested to know which club you are from. I bet Kenny has scored plenty against them (including quite a few on his right foot)!

    i can help you,
duffy, balym and tobi (knights back 3) all equally did well to shut Kenny down when needed when knights played devonport earlier this year when they won 4-1. Kenny did score however, but from the penalty spot...

  26. anon 6:20. he wont be slotting back in as he was never out of the side.

never happen at any other club? is that a joke

  27. he should sit at home and focus all day on the game the next day

  28. Nothing better than sledging a bloke who still has to play that amazing back 3 at Knights again. Good to give him some more ammo to play with. Duffy and Tobi are good players, but Balym? You must be having a laugh!

  29. One bad game from Mckenna and all off a sudden he is shit who has no skill and no right foot?? Stop it .... are u on drugs takes a lot to be his age and still be on top champ.

  34. Anon 17:17, you idiot. I bet you are (or were) half the player Chris McKenna is. I bet his right foot is better than yours too!
